Press Release: “Starz Digital Media, the digital and on-demand licensing arm of Starz Media, LLC, and Dimension Films announced that Piranha 3DD, the sequel to the surprise 2010 hit, Piranha 3D, will be available on-demand and online for VOD rentals day and date with its June 1st theatrical release. The Piranha 3DD day-and-date theatrical/VOD launch is the first Dimension Films release to venture into this trendsetting release model, the first collaboration between Dimension Films and Starz Digital Media, and the first ever available for a 3D movie.
“With the worldwide box office and critical success of PIRANHA 3D, I am excited to explore and take advantage of a wider release strategy which will give fans of the franchise an opportunity to see PIRANHA 3DD on multiple platforms,” said Bob Weinstein, co-chairman of The Weinstein Company (TWC).
Piranha 3DD will be available for a 48-hour VOD rental; $6.99 in standard and high definition, and $7.99 in 3D; consumers have 30 days from the time of purchase to begin viewing.
More than 95% of U.S. cable/satellite/Telco multichannel video households are served by operators participating in the Piranha 3DD VOD campaign, while leading Internet VOD distributors participating include (alphabetically): Amazon Instant Video, Google Play/YouTube, iTunes, PlayStation Network, Vudu, and Xbox Live.
Starz Digital Media has also collaborated with Milyoni to bring Piranha 3DD in VOD to Facebook, with the first-ever 3D Facebook VOD app for rental on the leading social media platform. The app allows users to transform the online movie-viewing experience into a social experience by letting them comment and share clips, stills, and quotes with their friends.

Back in May of last year, it was revealed that Marcus Nispel (The Texas Chainsaw Masscare, Friday the 13th, remakes) would be returning to Horror to direct "Backmask" The film is now slated to start filming this June in Rhode Island..
Plot: “During a sex, drugs, and rock-fueled party, six small-town teenagers find an old vintage record and decide to play it backwards in order to listen for any subliminal/satanic messages. Lo and behold, a seemingly malevolent spirit quickly infiltrates the group, wreaking havoc as it moves from one body to another. Eventually, however, it’s revealed that the spirit in question is actually trying to convey a message….and that the real source of horror isn’t particularly paranormal, but rather something (or someone) much closer to home.”
Reported by Variety: Gage Golightly (Teen Wolf, Heartland) has signed on for the lead roles. She’ll play one of “six small-town teenagers” that unleash a malevolent spirit, when they find an old vintage record and play it backwards..
Insidious, Paranormal Activity, and The Lords of Salem producer Steven Schneider will be producing the film and Kirsten Elms wrote the screenplay. Although not officially announced, we have been told exclusively that Shaun Smith (300, Dawn of the Dead remake) will be handling the make-up effects for the film.

It's just that, a story.. Nothing to it - Bleeding Cool Reports: They've been contacted by author William Peter Blatty, to let them know that the news/story was "utterly false." According to Blatty, it would be impossible for Morgan Creek to produce the show as the rights still belong to Blatty himself.
It seems that Blatty and The Exorcist director William Friedkin are planning to do something with those rights, which means that we might still see an Exorcist TV show with the original creators behind it. In the same message, Blatty states that the 2009 announcement of a miniseries written and directed by himself is still a potential plan, though not one that has come to fruition yet...

From the Press Release: The Hollywood Reporter has exclusively announced additional talent joining the ensemble cast of BJ McDonnell’s HATCHET 3, the third entry in the popular slasher franchise produced by Dark Sky Films and ArieScope Pictures. Principal photography is set to roll on the hotly-anticipated threequel outside of new Orleans tomorrow, May 30, 2012.
The trade reports Zach Galligan, best-known from his roles in genre classics Gremlins, Waxworks, and their respective sequels, will play Sheriff Fowler, the quiet Louisiana precinct of Jefferson Parish's hard-nosed head of police. A New York native, Galligan first rose to prominence with Joe Dante’s 1984 blockbuster Gremlins and has since appeared in a number of horror, science fiction, and dramatic features. He currently teaches acting at Manhattan’s Stonestreet Studios.
“I’m so excited to have Zach as a part of the HATCHET 3 family,” says director McDonnell. “I’m a huge fan of Gremlins and his performance as Billy Peltzer. I have the utmost faith in him and know he's going to bring everything he’s got to the role of Sheriff Fowler.”
Cody Blue Snider, star of A&E’s “Growing up Twisted”, plays Deputy Schneiderman, a gun-loving, heavy artillery-carrying area police officer joining in the assault on Victor Crowley. Rileah Vanderbilt, whom Hatchet fans know as the first two entries’ "Young Victor Crowley", will play Mikaela Dougherty – a SWAT Team member sent in to Honey Island Swamp as part of the search and recovery team. An integral part of the ArieScope team, this marks her first major role in the series.
Taking on the film’s scoring duties is critically acclaimed composer Bear McCreary, known for his stunning work on Ron Moore’s “Battlestar Galactica” reboot and currently featured on AMC’s hit series “The Walking Dead.”
“It's an honor to have Bear aboard HATCHET 3,” says writer/producer Adam Green. “Since working with him on my TV series ‘Holliston’, he’s instantly become a new and integral part of the ArieScope Pictures family. HATCHET 3, which opens on the ultraviolent final shot of Hatchet 2, continues the tale of the now iconic slasher villain Victor Crowley (Kane Hodder). As a search and recovery team heads into the haunted swamp to pick up the pieces and carnage left behind from the first two films, Marybeth (Danielle Harris) hunts down the true secret to ending the voodoo curse that has left the ghost of Victor Crowley haunting and terrorizing Honey Island Swamp for decades.
The sequel, which films outside of New Orleans, Louisiana from late May to mid- June, 2012, is a co-production of MPI/Dark Sky Films and Green’s Los Angeles-based ArieScope Pictures.
