The MPAA has given David Gordon Green's upcoming direct sequel to John Carpenter's 1978 classic 'HALLOWEEN' an R rating for horror violence and bloody images, language, brief drug use and nudity.

The film stars: Jamie Lee Curtis returning to her iconic role as Laurie Strode. Also starring Judy Greer, Miles Robbins, Virginia Gardner, Will Patton, Toby Huss, Haluk Bilginer, Jefferson Hall, Andi Matichak and Nick Castle as Michael Myers.

The plot centers around a British documentary crew visiting Michael in prison for a retrospective of the maniac’s night of terror — but their project becomes way more interesting when Myers escapes custody, retrieves his signature mask and seeks revenge on Laurie, with others naturally being part of his impressive career body count along the way.

In the decades following the fateful Halloween night that forever altered the former babysitter’s life, Laurie has armed and prepped herself for Michael’s inevitable return — to the detriment of her family, including daughter Karen and granddaughter Allyson.

Master of horror John Carpenter is the executive produce and served as creative consultant on this film, joining forces with cinema’s current leading producer of horror, Jason Blum (Get Out, Split, The Purge, Paranormal Activity). Inspired by Carpenter’s classic, filmmakers David Gordon Green and Danny McBride crafted a story that carves a new path from the events in the landmark 1978 film, and Green also directs.

HALLOWEEN will be produced by Malek Akkad, whose Trancas International Films has produced the HALLOWEEN series since its inception. Green and McBride will executive produce under their Rough House Pictures banner.

According to co-writer Danny McBride, the new film will pick up after the first one, but in some sort of an alternate reality. It’s as if the first Halloween ended in a slightly different way.

The flick will be distributed worldwide by Universal Pictures." Universal Pictures will release Trancas International Films, Blumhouse Productions and Miramax’s HALLOWEEN on Friday, October 19, 2018.
