From the Press Release: “Drew Daywalt, owner of Daywalt Fear Factory and recent director of three episodes of the MTV horror comedy series “Death Valley”, has signed on with G4TV to bring his take on the classic video game characters Mario and Donkey Kong with his short film “Kart Driver” for the online G4 Films Epictober Film Festival. The short will debut on G4TV.com on October 25th.
“I think the main reason that I chose such well trod ground as a Mario/Donkey Kong film is because it’s never been done as a psychological drama ending with a climax against a hideous creature,” Daywalt said. “Most Mario parodies humanize all of the animal and creature characters. We left the humans human and left the antagonist creature a creature… Just don’t look for a regular ape. What we have in store is much more disgusting than that…”
Ever since his childhood in one of Ohio’s most haunted houses, writer director Drew Daywalt has been writing escapist fantasy and horror. With a degree in Creative Writing from Emerson College in Boston, Daywalt set off to Hollywood where he spent years writing for Disney, DIC Entertainment and Universal and his animated series “The Wacky World of Tex Avery” garnered an Emmy nomination. With his first trip into live action, he landed studio screenwriting and film directing work with such Hollywood luminaries as Quentin Tarantino, Tony Scott and Jerry Bruckheimer. Daywalt’s first online short, “Bedfellows”, garnered almost 2 million hits within weeks of its launch. He quickly rose to the top of the online cinema community as the world’s leading horror short film creator, taking awards at festivals worldwide for his short form content for online and mobile devices. Drew’s other short films can be seen on Youtube under “Daywalt Fear Factory”. He can also be found online with his FEARnet.com “School of Fear” blog and on Twitter @DrewDaywalt.
