I did not watch a ton of horror related films this year.. Just didn't get around to checking out films like Prometheus and The Innkeepers.. That being said, this is my top 6 Horror/Sci-fi/Thrillers of the year..
6. 7 Nights Of Darkness - Plot: In 2008 six reality television show contestants spent seven nights in an abandoned and haunted asylum. The show never aired but an editor for the network was able to piece together some footage. The prize for staying all seven nights was a share of one million dollars that was to be split amongst any contestants that didn't leave. No prize money was ever awarded..
5. [REC] 3 Génesis - Plot: The action now takes place miles away from the original location and partly in broad daylight, giving the film an entirely fresh yet disturbing new reality. The infection has left the building. In a clever twist that draws together the plots of the first two movies, this third part of the saga also works as a decoder to uncover information hidden in the first two films and leaves the door open for the final installment, the future '[REC] 4 Apocalypse.'
4. Lovely Molly - Plot: This film is about Molly and her new husband Tim. They've moved in to Molly's deceased parents house out in the country. But not long after they move in Molly starts getting haunted by forgotten memories, or so she thought. Her husband Tim is a truck driver and while he's away she starts seeing things and hearing things that she can't explain. She slips back in to old habits, involving drugs. Her sister Hannah gets worried about Molly, as is her Pastor, and her boss notices something is up too. But there is more to what is happening than most people know. It all comes out in the most horrific way, and not everyone is safe.
3. Chronicle - Plot: Andrew is a troubled but creative teen with a keen visual eye and a high-quality HD camera. He is introverted and socially awkward. Along with his friends, Matt and Steve, they make a discovery that leads them all to acquire powerful telekinetic abilities. They're now capable of, well, almost anything. But things take a dark turn..
2. V/H/S - Plot: A POV, found footage horror film from the perspective of America's top genre filmmakers. A group of misfits are hired by an unknown third party to burglarize a desolate house in the countryside and acquire a rare tape. Upon searching the house, the guys are confronted with a dead body, a hub of old televisions and an endless supply of cryptic footage, each video stranger than the last..
1. The Cabin In The Woods - Plot: Five teenagers head off for a weekend at a secluded cabin in the woods. They arrive to find they are quite isolated with no means of communicating with the outside world. When the cellar door flings itself open, they of course go down to investigate. They find an odd assortment of relics and curios but when one of the women, Dana, reads from a book she awakens a family of deadly zombie killers. There's far more going on however than meets the eye as the five campers are all under observation..
