3.25 Sequel Talk For 'The Blair Witch Project':

Let me start by saying I wasn't a fan of 'The Blair Witch Project', I know a lot of you guys were.. People running around in the woods screaming for 80 minuets just wasn't my thing.. Back in the summer of 1999 the film was released into to theaters and shocked everyone, by becoming one of the top grossing horror films of all time.. Pulling in a massive $140,539,099 million dollars..

Naturally the studio wanted to capitalize on the success, so a sequel was rushed into theaters in 2000 (Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2), the film failed to live up to expectations.. Any future sequels were put on hold for indefinitely.. But there has been a lot of sequel talk/rumors going around for years... In a recited interview with Movies.com, writer/director Eduardo Sánchez was asked about the future of the Blair Witch franchise:

"Lionsgate owns the property, so it’s obviously up to them right now. We’ve been talking to them for the past four or five years about doing it, but there’s nothing really in the works right now with us. But I think you’re right and maybe just being back at Lionsgate will help move things forward on another Blair Witch movie."

"Our plan for the sequel is definitely not doing a found-footage movie. It took a while for people to just figure out what Blair had done; I’m not sure why. The film was so experimental and kind of came out of nowhere so people didn’t know what to think of it and weren’t sure if that style could be repeated."
