6.9 Guillermo del Toro Talks 'Pacific Rim' Sequel:

It appears Writer/Director Guillermo del Toro is still hard at work on a sequel to 'Pacific Rim', in a recent interview with BuzzFeed: He told the site that - he and screenwriter Zak Penn (X-Men: The Last Stand and The Incredible Hulk), were working on the script..

"I’m working very, very hard with Zak Penn, We’ve been working for a few months now in secret. We found a way to twist it around. Travis Beacham [co-writer of the first film] was involved in the storyline and now I’m writing with Zak because Travis has become a TV mogul."

He also let it be known the film will definitely be a sequel and not a prequel as some thought it would be: "Some people were wondering if we were going to do the prequel. I was never interested in doing that first wave of invasion," del Toro said. "I’m going for very new, very crazy ideas on the second one, which are very different from the first one — but you will get really great spectacle."

In other interviews del Toro has joked around that he would like to see his Kaiju creatures do battle with Godzilla, I agree.. I say let them fight! As of right now Legendary Pictures has not formally signed on to the project..

Last summer Pacific Rim was a box office disappointment - only pulling in $102 million domestically.. But the film had a strong run internationally, pulling in over $309 million... The flick had a Production Budget of $190 million, not counting marketing cost...

Guillermo del Toro was down in Texas promoting his new FX series The Strain at the Austin Television Festival when BuzzFeed, caught up with him...
