1.27 Update For 'Night Of The Living Dead' Prequel:




Back in October Cameron Romero (the son of horror icon George A. Romero), announced that he was gearing up to put his spin on 'Night Of The Living Dead', in form of a prequel... Now it appears that Radar Pictures has come on board to produce the upcoming project with production set for later this year...

The film will be produced by George and Darrin Reed along with Bryce C. Campbell. Radar’s Ted Field will produce with Aldo LaPietra - Executive producers are Mike Weber and Thomas van Dell...

The story will center around the late sixties (the height of the Cold War), and focus on a brilliant scientist who strikes a deal with the military that will give him all the resources he needs to finalize his work in exchange for what he later learns is a price all mankind will have to pay...

Cameron also had this to say: "“(Origins) is a great opportunity for me to continue the family tradition of creating haunting and ever-evolving depictions of the undead, and a great opportunity for Romero fans to see a story of zombie inception never portrayed before"

The original 1968 film centered on Barbra and her brother Johnny as they travel by car from Pittsburgh to the countryside to visit the gravestone of their father in the cemetery. Out of the blue, they are attacked by a strange man and Johnny is murdered. Barbra runs and releases the brake of Johnny's car since the keys are in his pocket, and flees to an isolated farmhouse, where she locks herself inside.

Barbra is in shock and soon she finds a man, Ben, who is also escaping from the inhuman creatures and he reinforces the doors, windows and openings in the house. He also finds a shotgun and a radio and they learn that the radiation from a satellite that was returning from Venus has somehow reactivated the brain of the dead. Then they find five humans hidden in the basement: Harry Cooper, his wife Helen and their daughter Karen that is sick; and Tom and his girlfriend Judy. Harry has an argument with Ben, since he believes that the basement is the safest place for them and Harry does not agree. Along the night, the tension ...

The flick only cost around $114,000 to produce and pulled in over $30 million worldwide... Cast: Duane Jones, Judith O'Dea, Marilyn Eastman, Keith Wayne, Judith Ridley, Karl Hardman Russell Streiner and Bill Heinzman...
