7.11 Guillermo del Toro Confirms Shooting Date For 'Pacific Rim 2':

On hand at San Diego Comic-Con director Guillermo del Toro has confirmed that he will start shooting 'Pacific Rim 2' this November... Last year Universal and legendary pictures officially announced the sequel, would land in theaters April 7, 2017..

“[Pacific Rim 2 is] starting shooting in November,” said del Toro. “We are deep into designing the robots, the kaijus…having fun planning the battles. We have an epic battle at the end of this that we started to design a couple of weeks ago. We’ve been up for about three or four months designing, and we start shooting in November.”

Back in 2013 Pacific Rim made it's way into theaters and was a box office disappointment - only pulling in around $102 million at the box office over the summer.. The film had a Production Budget of $190 million, not counting marketing cost...

Back in November of last year, del Toro talked to Collider and revealed some of the story details...

"It’s a few years after the first one," said del Toro. "It’s not an immediate follow-up. It is the world having been freed of Kaiju, what happens to the world after – what happens to the Jaeger technology once the Kaiju are not a threat. It’s quite a jump."

"It’s quite a different movie from the first one, but I think that two of our main characters, like in the first one, are Burn and Charlie," continued Del Toro. "I mean, honestly, they are probably the guys I have the most fun writing along with Hannibal Chau, so just from a purely selfish drive, I like writing them. You’re gonna get a lot of that, but the Kaijus are very different and you’re gonna see a very different type of the robots."
