Another underrated 1980s horror flick: "The Beast Within" Driving near a small Mississippi town in 1964, newlyweds Eli and Caroline experience car trouble. When Eli goes off to look for help, Caroline gets raped and is made pregnant by a horrible creature. Years later the child, now teenager Michael, finds himself undergoing an inexplicable physical change that compels him to return to that area in Mississippi. Soon dead bodies start piling up while his desperate parents struggle to understand what's happening...
This is one of the more ominous early 80s flick, it's a slow burn with a heart pounding build up.. I would watch The Beast Within all the time on HBO or Cinemax back in the day.. For some reason the film always felt a little more eerier on late hot summer nights.. All the actors were excellent, Ronny Cox, Bibi Besch and Paul Clemens..
Directed by Philippe Mora (Howling II) - Written by Tom Holland (Fright Night, Class of 1984, Psycho II, Child's Play), the film was based on Edward Levy's 1981 novel of the same name..
