My Thoughts On 'Amityville: The Awakening'

Finally checked out Amityville: The Awakening thanks to Google Play.. The story centers around a single mother Joan (Jennifer Jason Leigh) moving her two daughters Belle (Bella Thorne), Juliet (Mckenna Grace) , and her comatose son James (Cameron Monaghan) into the iconic Amityville house.. Not long after moving in strange happenings begin to occur at 112 Ocean Avenue.

Overall I thought Amityville: The Awakening was an ok time waster, it's not great.. But it's certainly better than some of the sequels or the endless copies. Unfortunately it is so obvious this film has gone through massive amounts of cuts and re-cuts. There are a couple of scenes I have no idea what is going on! The studio was so desperate for a PG-13 rating they just about ruined the flick. But fortunately the movie still has it's moments.

For the most part I thought the acting was pretty solid, but Jennifer Jason Leigh had one of the worst line delivery I've ever heard. Another thing that bugged me was the overuse of dream sequences and jump scares..

This movie is set to land on blu-ray next month, I don't know if it will include the uncut version of the film.. Hopefully it does, because I would love to see movie the way the director intended it to be..

Rating: 5/10
