Michael Chaves has signed on to direct the next installment in the Conjuring franchise. Now I know you are asking yourself, who the heck is Michael Chaves and why is directing 'The Conjuring 3' and not James Wan?
For some time now James Wan has let it be known he would probably not return as the director for the third film and apparently he was so impressed with Chaves after co-providing Michael's upcoming flick The Curse of La Llorona he decided to let Chaves take over the director's chair.
Wan had this to say: While working closely with Chaves on The Curse of La Llorona, I got to know him as a filmmaker. Chaves’ ability to bring emotion to a story, and his understanding of mood and scares, make him a perfect fit to direct the next Conjuring film. I'm excited to be back as producer and continue with Vera and Patrick on the next supernatural adventure of the Warrens.
So it also appears Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga will return as paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren.
BTW 'The Curse of La Llorona' centers around a troubled mother that is suspected of child endangerment, a social worker and her own small kids are soon drawn into a frightening supernatural realm. Their only hope to survive La Llorona's deadly wrath may be a disillusioned priest and the mysticism he practices to keep evil at bay, on the fringes where fear and faith collide.
The film will hit theaters sometime next year, Warner Bros.
