The new trailer for Don't Be Afraid of the Dark has debuted! Co-written and produced by Guillermo del Toro, the film hits theaters on August 26.

Directed by Troy Nixey, Don't Be Afraid of the Dark stars Katie Holmes, Guy Pearce and Bailee Madison and follows Sally (Madison), a young girl who moves to Rhode Island to live with her father (Pearce) and his new girlfriend (Holmes) in the 19th-century mansion they are restoring. Having stumbled upon the mansion’s hidden basement, Sally starts hearing voices calling out from the bolted ash pit, imploring her to open it. Sally obliges and unwittingly unleashes something so terrible, so unthinkable, that everyone's life – hers most of all - is placed in immediate and grave danger.

HALLOWEEN 3 & HELLRAISER Update:

Collider .com spoke with the DRIVE ANGRY director about the state of affairs on HELLRAISER. “Shooting HELLRAISER is one of the prime things that we’re focusing on right now, although both Todd and I would like to make HALLOWEEN 3, as soon as somebody says we can,” Lussier remarks. “HELLRAISER is an amazing world that Clive Barker created, and it is such a beautifully vibrant and surreal world within which to work. It is a canvas created by an artist. HELLRAISER wasn’t created for business. We’re certainly in conversation with Bob Weinstein at Dimension Films, who are incredibly supportive and passionate about the project, and it’s something that we’re all striving to get right because of that.


“We’re looking to do a story that takes place in the world that exists and that follows threads that were created by Clive. It doesn’t remake his story and doesn’t retell his story, yet it features components of his story and the world that he so beautifully fabricated.”


HELLRAISER’s Pinhead is one of the most iconic characters in horror cinema—a fact not lost upon the filmmaker. “It’s iconic for a reason, so if you’re going to change it, you better be damn careful about it,” Lussier says of possibly altering the Cenobite’s appearance. “We’ve had a few different versions where it was presented both differently and yet exactly the same, almost simultaneously, which was really intriguing. We have a different version that we’re working on now. There may be components to it that are presented in a new way and in a way that you haven’t seen before, but at the same time, to play within Clive’s world is to really focus on Clive’s creations and how he presented them. How do we feature that in a way that is both new and exciting, but at the same time, completely respectful of Clive’s original version?”

Piranha 3DD Update:

A profile piece on Joel Soisson appeared on Star News Online, who caught up to the producer on the set of the film. Soisson described the sequel: "This one is so outlandish in places. I hope it works because it really pushes all the boundaries slightly pushed in the first one."


John Gulager directs this time out with Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton on script duties - the same triumvirate that gave us the FEAST trilogy...and we now how nutty that got. The film apparently wrapped on May 27, so it is well on its way to its November 23 release date..

Dimension Films and Miramax has announced the production of THE AMITYVILLE HORROR THE LOST TAPES

This is the first film to be produced under the agreement between Miramax and The Weinstein Company to create sequels to some of Miramax's various properties. Dimension also announced that it has acquired the rights to a new screenplay for the film by Casey La Scala and Daniel Farrands (HALLOWEEN 6). Farrands and La Scala are also set to direct the film. Production will commence this summer with a release date scheduled for January 27, 2012.




The latest chapter in the Amityville saga showcases the events after the time of the original THE AMITYVILLE HORROR book and movie through found footage dating back to 1976. An ambitious female television news intern, on the verge of breaking the most famous haunted house case in the world, leads a team of journalists, clergymen and paranormal researchers into an investigation of the bizarre events that will come to be known as The Amityville Horror...only to unwittingly open a door to the unreal that she may never be able to close.




"We are thrilled to return to the mythology of THE AMITYVILLE HORROR with a new and terrifying vision that will satisfy our existing fans and also introduce an entirely new audience to this popular haunting phenomenon," said Bob Weinstein. Prior to MGM's money woes, there were talks of a film called THE AMITYVILLE TAPES. Neil Marshall Stevens was scripting that film which appeared to have dissolved while the studio worked out its financial problems. I have to wonder where this will put THE AMITYVILLE LEGACY, currently being developed at Hannibal Classics.

Dracula Cast For Dario Argento’s 3D Film:

Screen Daily reports that Thomas Kretschmann (pictured), who played the killer in Argento’s THE STENDHAL SYNDROME, reteams with the director to take on the iconic Count role. He’ll once again get to victimize Argento’s daughter Asia, who has also been cast in the movie, alongside previously announced Rutger Hauer as Van Helsing (a role Hauer discussed on video with us here) and Marta Gastini (Hauer’s co-star in THE RITE). DRACULA 3D is set to shoot on Italian locations beginning May 30; Kretschmann’s genre credits also include GRIMM LOVE, Peter Jackson’s KING KONG, Guillermo del Toro’s BLADE II, Marcus Nispel’s TV FRANKENSTEIN, RESIDENT EVIL: APOCALYPSE and the upcoming HOSTEL: PART III.

Robert Englund Joins The Cast Of "Strippers vs. Werewolves":

Nightmare on Elm Street icon Robert Englund makes his British film debut in Strippers vs. Werewolves! Hollywood legend Robert (Freddy Krueger) Englund is starring in his first British feature film as Tapper, a sinister werewolf pack leader, in indie comedy ‘Strippers vs. Werewolves’, which begins filming on Monday 16 May in locations around London.

Jonathan Sothcott, who is producing the film with Simon Phillips, commented, “Robert is the ultimate horror movie star – and we are honoured to have him on board and proud of ourselves for being the first British producers to secure him for a movie here. Robert has a dignity and gravitas as an actor that lifts any film he’s in. He’s the cherry on our cake.”
The 35-year movie veteran, who played razor-fingered killer Freddy Krueger seven times in the blockbuster ‘Nightmare on Elm Street’ series, has also starred in ‘Wishmaster’, ‘The Phantom of the Opera’, ‘2001 Maniacs’ and the cult television series ‘V’.

Centred around Vixens, a London strip-club, STRIPPERS VS. WEREWOLVES stars Adele Silva, Barbara Nedeljakova, Ali Bastian, Coralie Rose, Billy Murray, Alan Ford, Sarah Douglas and Nick Nevern.

Universal pushes “DARK TOWER”:

According to Deadline, Universal has moved the film’s start date to February 2012. THE DARK TOWER was supposed to start rolling this summer, with Ron Howard directing, but rumors of Universal putting the project into turnaround have been rampant. The studio is working with the filmmakers to lower the budget on an epic project that will include three feature films and two limited-run TV series. However, Universal must greenlight the film by July, or the rights will revert back to Stephen King.

The House of Horror is a horror-thriller that centers around a gruesome crime scene. The film is shot with a blend of found footage, interrogation video, news cameras and classical cinematography. The film focuses on the aftermath of a horrific massacre; five college students, brutally murdered inside a decrepit, abandoned home.


We are thrown right into the mix as the lead Detective, Mark Lewis, and the police department’s psychologist, Dr. Elizabeth Klein, question a suspect. The young man at the center is John Ascot, bound by handcuffs in a mobile command station. During the interrogation, John explains everything leading up to the deaths of his friends.


We discover that they were amateur ghost-hunters, seeking out paranormal phenomenon at the abandoned house believed to be haunted. What started out as a harmless activity turned into something truly terrifying and more than they ever could bargain for. John explains to the police that he isn’t responsible for his friends’ deaths, but rather, it was the house. He tells them he believes the house is a gateway to hell; a place of concentrated evil.


We slowly witness an eerie change in John's demeanor through the course of the movie. Things take a disturbing turn when John hints at the notion that he is possessed by the Devil. Detective Lewis and Dr. Klein are forced to unravel the mystery of how John’s friends were murdered. All this leads to a stunning revelation about the man they’ve been interrogating and a gut-wrenching conclusion.

TERMINATOR Finds A Home:

TRUE GRIT executive producer Megan Ellison has won the rights to make at least two more installments of the TERMINATOR franchise, with FAST FIVE’s Justin Lin attached to direct and Arnold Schwarzenegger attached to star.

Deadline reports that the deal came down to Ellison’s Annapurna Films and Lionsgate. Ellison is the daughter or Oracle founder Larry Ellison, and sister of Paramount-based Skydance producer/financier David Ellison. Ellison is also providing financing for Kathryn Bigelow and Mark Boal’s Osama bin Laden movie as well as John Hillcoat’s THE WETTEST COUNTY IN THE WORLD.

Hannibal Classics Is Moving Forward With Amityville Legacy 3D:

The Amityville Legacy 3D is going to be based on the book "Amityville: The Evil Escapes" by John G. Jones (which has served as an inspiration for some of the sequels) and will be produced by Richard Rionda Del Castro, Paul Mason (co-producer of the 2005 remake) and Steve B. Harris.

Castro previously produced Give 'Em Hell, Malone and The Big Bang. Andrew Helm and Harris are scripting. Here's a full breakdown of what's to come.

Shooting is expected to begin this fall with a release in 2012.

Six priests enter an abandoned home in the middle of an intense thunderstorm. The leader of the group, FATHER MANFRED, quiets the doubting FATHER KIBBLER, the youngest priest. The priests separate and Kibbler follows the sound of laughter into the attic. Inside, flies swarm by the the iconic windows of the Amityville house. The door slams shut and an unseen demon claws at Kibbler. Manfred kicks open the door and battles the demon until it consumes him in fire. The attic erupts but the demon is vanquished -- contained in a weak, but still-alive Manfred.

Thirty years later, we meet NANCY and MICHAEL EVANS and their daughter AMANDA, a happy family recently touched by tragedy. Nancy's sister CAROLYN committed suicide, leaving Nancy and Michael to care for her kids, BRIAN and JESSICA. The Evans family is in the process of moving from the city to live in Carolyn's suburban home, where Nancy hopes to bond with Brian and Jessica. Michael plans to fix up the house, sell it, and move the family back to the city.

Before they settle into the home, the friction between Michael and Jessica threatens to splinter the family. Very soon after their arrival, Nancy begins to sense a palpable, evil presence. She can't seem to sleep through the night due to mysterious and horrifying noises. Their family cat is found in the attic -- dead. Slaughtered. Worse, as a family unit, they have a hard time meshing with Brian and Jessica. Michael becomes consumed with renovating the house, and hires a couple of hard-partying locals, ANT and SEAN, to help him. But they are afraid to go in the attic. They know what happened in there.

As Michael's passion turns to obsession, Nancy struggles with her very sanity. She's coming apart at the seams, unhinged by the evil presence that only she seems to feel. She knows it will stop at nothing to get them out of the house. When she finds some letters Carolyn wrote to Father Manfred and Father Kibbler she makes a startling discovery -- Carolyn went through the same thing. Unable to track down Manfred, she locates Kibbler -- but he offers her no help. He is no longer a priest, and only communicated with Carolyn because Manfred no longer could. She begs him to help her find Manfred, and Kibbler finally admits the truth: Manfred is in an insane asylum.

Nancy goes to see Father Manfred and convinces him to help her vanquish the evil spirit. Michael's erratic behavior intensifies as the hauntings escalate, culminating in a horrific attack on one of Jessica's friends and the mysterious disappearance of a local delivery man. And it soon becomes clear that Michael is building an exact replica of the Amityville house. Nancy finally convinces Kibbler and Father Manfred to put aside their bad blood and help her fight the evil spirit and cast it from the house.

But if they think the spirit will go quietly or that they even know the source of its strength, they have another thing coming. AMITYVILLE - THE LEGACY 3D reinvigorates a classic franchise with astonishing scares, dazzling set pieces, and twists that will leave audiences shocked and hungry for more.

Casting Update For Guillermo Del Toro's Creature Feature ‘Pacific Rim’:

Guillermo del Toro has enlisted actor Charlie Hunnam to star in Pacific Rim. Hunnam is best known for his role of Jax on Sons of Anarchy.
The casting announcement is proof that Del Toro is moving fast on the project after Universal canned his adaptation of At the Mountains of Madness.

Written by Travis Beacham, Pacific Rim finds Del Toro tackling a different sort of creature feature. This one concerns giant monsters attacking Earth and how we must use a hi-tech arsenal to eradicate them.

"INBRED' Trailer Is Here:

Alex Chandon, the man who brought Cradle of Filth to the screen in CRADLE OF FEAR, has a new horror film in postproduction called INBRED. He sent along a couple of teaser posters, a trailer, photos and info on the movie, which is currently being sold at the Cannes Film Festival.

INBRED, scripted by Chandon and Paul Shrimpton and produced by New Flesh Films, is set in the rural Yorkshire town of Mortlake, where a group of youthful offenders from the city are brought to do their community service. After they and their handlers have a run-in with the local inbreds, the conflict escalates to grisly levels. The cast includes DEAD MAN’S SHOES’ Jo Hartley, James Doherty, EDEN LAKE’s James Burrows, Seamus O’Neill, Terry Haywood, Nadine Rose Mulkerrin, Neil Leiper and Chris Waller, with makeup FX by Duncan Jarman (whose credits include RESIDENT EVIL and SWEENEY TODD), Linzi Foxcroft of Trauma FX and Graham Taylor of GTFX. 'Leatherface 3D' Update:

WWE Heads Back Into Horror With 'No One Lives':

According to Variety WWE Studios will revisit the horror genre with No One Lives, a co-production with Pathe U.K. that will star Luke Evans (The Three Musketeers, Immortals), with Ryuhei Kitamura (Midnight Meat Train) directing.

The plot for the film penned by David Cohen, revolves around a ruthless gang that takes a young couple hostage in an abandoned house in the middle of nowhere. When the captive girl is killed, the tables are unexpectedly turned, and the gang finds itself outsmarted by a seasoned killer.

Nicole kidman In Talks To Star In A James Wan Untitled Project:

IM Global has revealed its latest slate of films which include Rob Zombie's The Lords of Salem, an untitled supernatural thriller from Scott Derrickson, and a new film from Insidious director James Wan.

There isn't much known about Wan's film just yet other than its title of Specter and the fact that the aforementioned Kidman is in talks to star in the flick.

VAMPYR: With his sexy thriller X now rolling out in the US Australia's Jon Hewitt is casting his eye to the future. And what has captured the Acolytes director's attention is a bloody experimental horror film titled VAMPYR. Slated to star Belinda McClory (THE MATRIX), Hewitt describes it as an extreme horror revolving around "a brutalized TV news anchor (McClory) who descends into homicidal madness" in a story that will turn the rape-revenge genre on its head. Though the film has not yet begun production Hewitt has shot a brief promo to help sell the concept to potential investors in Cannes and it's immediately obvious that this will not be a typical vampire movie.

Planned Film Trilogy Of Stephen King's THE DARK TOWER: May Be Put On Hold

Stephen King's THE DARK TOWER: Ron Howard's planned film trilogy and interlocking TV series adaptation of Stephen King' saga has always been seen as extraordinarily ambitious. Now however, that ambition might be too big for the company behind it - Universal Pictures. Variety reports that the project has run into budgetary complications which have caused studio execs to rethink original plans. Meetings are reportedly expected in coming days to determine whether to put the project into turnaround which would allow producer Imagine Entertainment to shop it around and either bring another studio onboard as a partner, or let another take it over completely. Universal has put pre-production staff on hiatus as they discuss ways to bring down the budget. One thing's for certain, the September start date has now been scratched.

The move isn't unprecedented. Universal pulled out of Guillermo del Toro's AT THE MOUNTAIN OF MADNESS amid concern that the $150 million budget R-rated project would struggle to be profitable. A project of this scale will cost considerably more so it's not unreasonable for the studio to want to share the risk if possible. With Javier Bardem's deal to play the lead role of Roland Deschain nearly closed, Imagine certainly has a viable property here.

Full Synopsis For Rob Zombie's The Lords of Salem:

Synopsis: Heidi, a blonde rock chick, DJs at a local radio station, and together with the two Hermans (Whitey and Munster) forms part of the "Big H Radio Team".
A mysterious wooden box containing a vinyl record arrives for Heidi, "a gift from the Lords". She assumes it's a rock band on a mission to spread their word. As Heidi and Whitey play the Lords' record, it starts to play backwards, and Heidi experiences a flashback to a past trauma.
Later Whitey plays the Lords' record, dubbing them the Lords of Salem, and to his surprise, the record plays normally and is a massive hit with listeners.
The arrival of another wooden box from the Lords presents the Big H Team with free tickets, posters and records to host a gig in Salem. Soon Heidi and her cohorts find that the gig is far from the rock spectacle they're expecting: the original Lords of Salem are returning, and they're out for BLOOD.

Lionsgate has announced that Wes Bentley (P2, Ghost Rider, American Beauty) has landed the role of Head Gamemaker "Seneca Crane".

three surviving members of Piranha 3D will be returning for the John Gulager's Piranha 3DD

From the Press Release:Christopher Lloyd (pictured, BACK TO THE FUTURE), Ving Rhames (PULP FICTION) and Paul Scheer (THE LEAGUE) have signed on to join the cast of PIRANHA 3DD after surviving last year’s feast.

The boys are back, but will they live through another sharp-toothed invasion?
PIRANHA 3DD is currently in production and will splash into theatres nationwide on November 23rd.

'I Am Legend' Prequel Officially Dead For Now:

Back in 2008, Warner Bros. began work on an I Am Legend Prequel, bringing back the team of star Will Smith and director Francis Lawrence which brought in a worldwide gross of $584 million the first time around. The film would chronicle the final days of humanity in New York before a man-made virus caused a plague that left Smith’s character the lone survivor among a mutated mob in the city.

Word on the film had been non-existent until today, when an interview with Lawrence revealed that he is no longer involved and that he doesn't "think [it's] ever going to happen."

Early Details On The Upcoming New Indie Feature Zombie Alley:

Synopsis: A meteor falls from outer space, and Momma (the moo-moo wearing, shotgun toting, brains of the operation) and Greasy Earl (her deadbeat mechanic son) find the rock, discover it has highly addictive properties, take it back to their auto body shop, and make white trash meth out of it, which starts a zombie apocalypse. This fun horror/comedy follows a struggling rock band as they wrestle with drugs, sex, rock and roll…and a unique twist on zombies and the monster genre as the mutated Momma, Earl, and their “Juicehead” lackeys ravage the town and spread the infection in an attempt to build their Evil Auto Empire.

The director, Niko Red Star, is a veteran in the genre, and Phil Nichols of Facades FX will be providing the final stage makeup of "Momma" and "Greasy Earl", the film's main monsters. Cast members include Melanie Haynes, Billy Blair, and Stephanie Rhodes.

The filmmakers are gearing up to commence principal photography on May 21st in Garland, Texas.

Synopsis: “Around the same time, Jonathan Harker arrives home from recuperation in Budapest; he and Mina also join the coalition, who turn their attentions to dealing with Dracula. After Dracula learns of Van Helsing and the others’ plot against him, he takes revenge by visiting—and biting— Mina at least three times. Dracula also feeds Mina his blood, creating a spiritual bond between them to control her. The only way to forestall this is to kill Dracula first. Mina slowly succumbs to the blood of the vampire that flows through her veins, switching back and forth from a state of consciousness to a state of semi-trance during which she is telepathically connected with Dracula. It is this connection that they start to use to deduce Dracula’s movements. It is only possible to detect Dracula’s surroundings when Mina is put under hypnosis by Van Helsing. This ability gradually gets weaker as the group make their way to Dracula’s castle. Dracula flees back to his castle in Transylvania, followed by Van Helsing’s group, who manage to track him down just before sundown and destroy him by shearing “through the throat” with a knife and stabbing him in the heart also with a knife. Dracula crumbles to dust, his spell is lifted and Mina is freed from the marks. Quincey Morris is killed in the final battle, stabbed by Gypsies who had been charged with returning Dracula to his castle; the survivors return to England.”

Fast Five was easily the top winner with $86,198,765. Insidious, still in the top 10 with $2,689,676. Source Code remained in the top 10 as well with $2,509,824. Scream 4 dropped out of the top 10 with a very disappointing $2,179,521 in only it's third weekend of release..
